Michael Clarke (priest)
Harold George Michael Clarke〔(St. Peter's Lodge History )〕 (1898–19 August 1978〔The Times, Wednesday, Aug 23, 1978; pg. 14; Issue 60387; col G ''The Very Rev. Michael Clarke''〕) was an Anglican priest and educator in the 20th century.
Clarke was educated at St Paul's School, London.〔“Who was Who” 1897-2007 London, A & C Black, 2007 ISBN 978-0-19-954087-7〕 He served with the 2nd Field Company Royal Engineers in France during 1918, after which he went up to Trinity College, Cambridge. He was an Assistant Master at Winchester College from 1921 to 1932 when he became Head Master of Rossall School, serving for five years until 1937 when he became head of Repton School in Derbyshire.〔(Independent Schools Listing )〕〔(National Church Institutions Database of Manuscripts and Archives )〕 Ordained in 1939,〔Crockford's Clerical Directory1940-41 Oxford, OUP,1941〕 he became Rector of Holy Trinity, St Marylebone in 1945. In 1951 he became Provost of Birmingham Cathedral, and held the post for a decade. Clarke was a prominent Freemason.〔(Warwickshire Freemasons )〕
